IDE Integration Guide

BotDigit + Visual Studio Code

Visual Studio Code users can seamlessly interact with BotDigit workspaces using popular MCP-compatible extensions like Roo Code, Cline, or native MCP testing runtimes.

Supported VS Code Environments

Recommended

Roo Code (formerly Roo Clinic)

Roo Code provides first-class, built-in MCP server configuration directly in the extension settings tab. It can autonomously query workspace requirements, write code, commit changes, and trigger reviews.

  • GUI MCP server manager
  • Individual tool execution approval toggle
  • Supports Claude 3.5 Sonnet and OpenAI o1/GPT-4o
Alternative

Cline (Autonomous Agent)

Cline allows agents to read terminals, execute commands, and invoke MCP tools. With BotDigit MCP enabled, Cline can update tasks as it solves issues.

  • Full terminal and tool execution logs
  • Local MCP configuration file support
  • Per-action authorization model

Configuration Snippet

In your extension settings or in your VS Code workspace settings (.vscode/mcp.json or Roo Code settings):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "botdigit": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@botdigit/mcp-server"],
      "env": {
        "BOTDIGIT_API_TOKEN": "bdt_your_personal_access_token_here"
      }
    }
  }
}
Need an API Token? Generate your scoped Personal Access Token in Developer Settings → Personal Access Tokens or follow the Setup Guide.
Prerequisites: Ensure Node.js ≥ 18 is installed on your workstation. The CLI executes via npx with zero build steps required.
